Mission Briefing

Administrator Jayanti

Commander, please sit down. The situation is dire and I regret that I must assign you a difficult task.

The alien intelligence's goals are now clear. Through some still-unclear means, a number of corporate and governmental agencies have acquired samples of alien equipment-- on its own, not tremendously useful, as our years of analysis of their technology have yielded no greater understanding of its workings. However, these recent acquisitions appear to have somehow come bundled with the knowledge to employ the technology.

We can conclude from the brutal and relentless scouring that has ensued that this outcome is not acceptable in the eyes of the Evolved Intelligence.

We have attempted over the past weeks to stand in the way of the enemy's forces as they hunted down and reclaimed their property, and by and large we have been completely ineffectual in this task. They have run roughshod over the planet, destroying and reclaiming whatever they desired in spite of the forces we arrayed against them.

ALEPH's recent discovery of the likely acquisition vector of the alien technology, as well as its trace of the recent incursion into Maya, has led it to the conclusion that the only remaining alien technology still in human hands is held by rogue elements of the PanOceanian planetary government. With the recent arrest of Governor Prescott for treason-- an unfortunate ruse for the public's benefit, especially tragic given that the governor himself appeared to have no involvement in the matter before he was compromised-- the Assault Subsection has taken control of all materials being hoarded by the true criminals within his administration following a relatively minor series of altercations.

As a result of these events, I am now in possession of all of the remaining contraband.

I intend to give it back.

I understand your shock, Commander, but it is the only option available to us. Six independant corporations from four nations could not hide from the Intelligence, and the combined forces of the Human Coalition presented little impediment to the incursions of its military. If the criminal agents had succeeded in dispersing the materials to other planets as ALEPH believes they were planning, it is likely that the Intelligence would have considered this adequate provocation to accelerate its plans for the conquest of the Human Sphere.

Humanity is not yet ready to escalate tensions with the Combined Army to that degree. However, it is also likely that simply handing the materials to the enemy would be seen as an even greater sign of weakness, yielding a similar outcome.

Our only choice is to engineer a show of resistance. I have arranged for the offending materials to be gathered within a fortified complex outside of Silvania where the impact on the civilian population will be minimized. The enemy will find the facility, and they will deploy their forces against it, and they will succeed at recovering their technology. This much is certain. The only uncertain factor is whether they will doubt the validity of their victory afterward.

And so we come to the unpleasant task I must assign to you. You and your fellow commanders know of the futility of our resistance, but the forces you command cannot. Their resistance must be convincing, and if any are compromised by the enemy, they must convey only earnest defiance.

I am sorry to put you in this position, commander, but this is the only path that remains to us. Many of your men and women will die today. We can only hope that their sacrifice might prevent a larger tragedy down the line.

Mission Briefing

Node 386/Blue/Abstract

It is time to complete our work here, Commander.

The human data network has proven to be easily manipulated, furnishing me with the locations of all of my remaining property. The human political organization responsible for the theft had planned to disperse the materials to other human-occupied worlds in an effort to prevent their retrieval, but they have grown fearful in the wake of our offensive. The remaining materials have been gathered within a fortified compound 0.014 rotational degrees north of the human city.

The humans believe that this consolidation will permit a more effective defense of the materials. This is true. However, it will also dramatically simplify the process of their retrieval.

The human defenses are formidable. Antiaerial weaponry prevents vertical insertion. High walls and conventional military forces render a ground assault possible, but inefficient. To ensure success in this operation, my agents will provide support from unconventional vectors.

The bulk of the human defensive perimeter is protected by automated defensive emplacements, controlled remotely by subroutines of the human artificial intelligence. An assault team coordinated by Noctifer-Agent Keeskreet is already mobilizing to expunge any records of the humans' analysis of the materials provided to them by the Concordat from the nearest human data hub, a task equally as important as the destruction of the samples themselves. The implication of our hackers into the human datanet in furtherance of this objective will also provide the opportunity for an infiltration of the emplacements' control routines, allowing our forces to assume control over the fortified compound's defensive emplacements and security barriers, converting them from a hindrance to an enhancement of our assault.

Augmenting the automated defenses, the facility will likely be protected by a secondary perimeter of biological actors. Your forces will engage these humans conventionally, but an additional resource has been assigned to assist you: the last Plasma Driver remaining in the system from our initial assault on the planet. I have held it cloaked in the shadow of the planet's larger moon, but have tasked the Commisariat to move it into position to provide coordinated fire support upon the facility and its defenders. As always, this weapon will require precise targeting assistance from ground forces to ensure maximum destructive value.

Assisted by these supportive resources, your forces will infiltrate the human complex and destroy all remaining traces of the Exrah's treason. Leave none of my works in their hands.

This task takes precedence above all other efforts in this region of space. As such, you are authorized for any personnel or material resource that you deem beneficial to the operation.

Given the overwhelming resources and coordination being allocated to this assault, its outcome has been determined to be without possibility of failure except that inevitably introduced by the involvement of organic agents. If such a failure occurs, the consequences for the agents responsible will be severe.

Do not render this outcome necessary, Commander.

Do not fail.

Combined Army

    Site A

Mega-Battle Structure

  • The Mega-Battle is comprised of three Mission Sites, one of which has two separate Game Boards.
  • Players at all Sites will play their games in a synchronized fashion. Once a Mission Site reaches the end of Round 1, the players there will wait for all games to reach the same point. Before continuing.
  • Mission objectives at sites B and C are capable of affecting the other Mission Sites. At the end of each Game Round, any cross-Site effects that were generated that round will be executed, and then the next Game Round will proceed at all sites.
  • It is recommended that players at all sites resolve as much as they can of their cross-Site effects in advance to avoid creating excessive delays-- only save the elements that depend on impacts elsewhere. E.g.,
    • at Site B, you might execute the Puppeteer hacking program to Possess a turret at Site A; if successful, the turret's BTS save should be saved for between Game Rounds.
    • at Site C, determine beforehand which player controls the Firing Console and whether the gun is still online; the actual BS Attack roll should be saved for between rounds as the desired target may move to an ineligible position later in the round.
  • Players have the option of purchasing any campaign special characters who survived their missions for the mega-battle. Their stats and costs are reproduced below.
