Infinity Tools

Spud plays Infinity. Sometimes, he builds things to make the game easier for the players at his store.

Here, now, are those things.

N3 Hacking Helper

I found it difficult to remember which hacking programs were available to me in which situations, so I made a simple web tool that filters the long menu for each Hacking Device down to only the options that can affect your target. Click to access the N3 Hacking Helper! One cool extra feature: if you bookmark the tool while your phone or tablet has internet, it will continue to work later on if you travel somewhere that doesn’t have wi-fi. The whole site gets stored in your device’s cache for later use. Thanks to IJW Wartrader for pointing me toward this neat possibility. 馃榾

Classified Objective Decks

Hey look, I updated my Classified Objective Decks for ITS Season X! 馃檪

The deck is available in lots of different versions:

  • Two languages – English and French (merci 脿 Wizzy et tous ses copains pour leur aide avec cel脿! 馃榾 )
  • Two acquisition methods:
    • Printable PDF – Download the PDF and have it printed at a print shop near you. Important printing tips:
      • These are optimized for printing on a high-quality colour laser printer– I really don’t recommend printing the new cards on your home inkjet printer. With four times as many cards and the darker colours of my new design, you will absolutely DESTROY your ink cartridge. Seriously, Staples printing is great and close to free, and I’m not just saying that because they bought me a Caribbean island.
      • Be sure to have the PDFs printed at ACTUAL SIZE, and NOT Fit-To-Page, or they won’t fit in standard sleeves!
      • Also make sure that they’re being printed at 600dpi or better. Many print shops will default to 300dpi unless you specifically ask, which makes the text a bit fuzzy to read.
    • PrinterStudio.com – I’ve uploaded all of the decks to an online print shop that I’ve had great luck with in the past. They produce incredibly professional-looking playing cards (with round corners and everything! 馃榾 ), and their prices aren’t too extortionate. 馃槢
  • Two formats:
    • One-Sided – Only the text-side faces of the cards, ideal for use with coloured plastic sleeves
    • Two-Sided – Each card comes attached to a fold-over card back in one of four colours (Purple, Blue, Yellow, and Teal).
  • Two paper sizes: Letter and A4

Infinity Quick Reference Sheet

I made this summary sheet to help me demo Infinity to new players. It explains how to read unit profiles and weapon profiles, how to spend orders, and has a list of fairly common skills that might come up during a player’s first few games.

Definitely aimed at completely new players– existing players will find it all a bit redundant and obvious. 馃槈

A second sheet is also now available, which covers common weapons, camouflage, and specialists.

Hey there! Thanks for all the work you’ve done and giving away it free!

I am wondering though, why don’t you include a version with the card fronts on one page and the back side on the others? Personally, I don’t like the look of a folded card so I can have front and back side and some people I asked have the same opinion.

I don’t really mind to be honest because I can do it myself with the files you provided since I’m a graphic designer, it will just take a little time, but for people who can’t do it I think it would be useful.

Just my 2 cents, thanks again for this!

I can add that tomorrow– one document with a different colour on each page. 馃檪

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

I added them above, listed under “Back Only”/”Seulement l’Arri猫re”.

Clear your browser cache, then reload. If you’re using Firefox or an Android phone, also clear your app cache (it’s separate on those platforms). The omission was corrected a couple months ago, but due to the extremely sticky app caching I’m using, it’s a freaking nightmare to get it to update. >_<

Captain Spud, your Hacking Tool is amazing and I use it pretty much every game I play. One error that I came across is that White Noise should be a “Short/ARO” skill instead of just a “Short” skill (confirmed via the N3 wiki). Thanks for all your work, it is truly appreciated!

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

Well-spotted. It’s fixed, though as usual it may be a bit of an ordeal to get your device to refresh with the update. I really need to do some research to figure out how to get the cache to be less sticky… >_<

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

I’ve been wobbling back and forth on whether I want to do it… it’s super tedious to make the alterations, but there’s been enough demand that I can’t dismiss it outright. I’ll likely look into it at some point this month.

    <-- super lazy

if you ever put the hacking helper in an app i’d be among many who would be willing to drop cash on it. ’till that happens thank you so much for putting it together, its a great help learning the extra part of the game.

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

It doesn’t need to be made into an app– if you bookmark it while you do have an Internet connection, it will be available to re-visit later when you have no connection. The entire app gets stored in your phone or tablet’s Application Cache. 馃檪

Spud, do you have a copy of HSN3? If not, I can provide you with information so you can, if you so desire, get ahead off the PDFs and drop the update around the same time.

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

The updated hacking content is all coded in and ready to go; I’m planning to publish the update once the book releases to the public. In the meantime, I’m working to add some additional features to the program– including a Reference tab that contains Booty, Metachemistry, Martial Arts, and other tables that I frequently need to look up while playing– as well as doing a bit of a graphics overhaul.

  • MC23

Your quick reference sheet has been very helpful to me. I was going laminate some copies to share with others also just learning the game or need a refresher. Before I do that I was wondering if you were going to update it once Human Sphere is widely available.

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

Probably not– HSN3 is mostly “advanced” rules, while my sheets focus on raw essentials for newbies. I haven’t seen anything yet in HSN3 that overlaps with anything on the sheets, so they’ll probably remain as-is.

    Greeting Capt!!
thanks for all your help! I was wondering if you have a cheat sheet for all the states you can be in for infinity. Like something that tells players what immobilized and immobilized 2 are. Blind, stunned, etc. thanks.

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

Good timing– I’ve just updated my classified deck with the new objective. You can find full new deck PDFs on the “Infinity Tools” page, and single-card PDFs with only the new card in this blog post. Note that the purchasable versions available from PrinterStudio.com haven’t been updated yet due to some weird issues I’m having with their website– I’ll post an update on the blog once those versions are updated with the new card.

  • Lovell

Thanks for the great tools! Has KIDNAPPING been added to the site where I can order the cards from?

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

Not yet. I ran into some problems getting the site to save my edits, got discouraged, got sidetracked, forgot, and moved onto a terrain project.

I’ll try to get back to it this week. I’m going to have to completely rebuild the deck files on the site, which I’m not looking forward to, but whatever. :/

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

Actually, someone contacted me this week and offered to translate the reference sheets into Spanish. I’ll post them on this page once he’s finished. 馃檪

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

I’ve come close to making them a few times, and I even have a design lying around for what the card would look like (Booty1 on one side, Booty2 on the other side, 2 copies of each card so that items aren’t removed entirely after they’re drawn). The challenge has always been art– I would want an appropriate illustration on each card, but legally I can’t use CB’s art without permission. If I produce my own drawings of their designs (e.g., I redraw an Aleph HMG), I’m still basically taking their design. So I would be left making drawings of my own imaginary weapons and equipment, and the fact that they don’t match would bother some people.

Also: it’s just a lot of illustrations to make, and I’m very lazy.

So, yeah. It’s something I would really like to make, but as things stand there are some challenges I haven’t solved yet. I might look into it again once N4 rolls around.

  • Jeremy

Are you interested in sharing the files? I’d love to update them for Season 12 if possible : )

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

    1) N4 tools has already been updated.
    2) I don’t think the classified decks changed..?
    3) I don’t like the guide sheets anymore and will likely redesign them from scratch when I start playing again.

    Hey,

A big thank you for this work, your cards look gorgeous !!
I’ve a request, if you have time some day: would it be possible to create a version of your cards where front is on a page, and back on the next.
I mean: to be able to print on a printer that does front/back prints –> the cards would then be ready right after printing (no need to fold them to get front and back).

Just an example I stumbled upon, to illustrate what I mean, for the game Unlock! : they offer some example scenarios, and their cards can be printed front and back –> https://www.spacecowboys.fr/unlock-demos-english

  • Captain Spud [Post author]

A few people have asked for that, but it’s harder to do than you would expect. First of all, different printers handle alignment differently, so it’s hard for me to anticipate how any given printer will need the two sides to be aligned on the page to ensure a perfect match from back to front. Secondly, because I offer different versions of the deck, there’s a fairly large labour investment for me to go back and re-export everything to create two-sided files.

Also, my game aids are just kind of on hold at the moment, as I’m only just starting to get back into the game after 18 months away, and I don’t want to put time into producing things until I’m more up to speed on the new edition’s rules. Currently I have no idea how long that will take.
