The Stew

Site A - Balanced Scenario

Mission Briefing

Foremost General
Bok Sorak

Be silent, Morats. The coward frog told us that no-one was to discover us here until our moment of glory. Our jammers will stop their instruments from detecting us, so we only need to lie in this filth for a few minutes until the humans pass.

Oh, quit your whimpering, Gaheku. If you think that's bad, you should try de-glanding a Preta in heat. Makes this stew smell like a fresh-picked flower, I'll tell you.

...

...hmmm.

You know, Commander, it occurs to me that if we kill them all very quickly, none will survive to escape the jammers and tell anyone they found us.

And then we won't need to lie in all of this shit.

...

Yes, alright, it would probably have been better if I thought of that plan first.

Oh, be quiet, Gaheku. Go find some human blood to rinse yourself off with.

Mission Briefing

Col. Edgar Dunstan

Commander, we've just lost contact with one of our sweeper teams in the sewer. Comms officer says he got a garbled pop before it went dead. You know what that means... they wandered into a jammer somewhere down there. Which is just fan-fricking-tastic news all on its own, because what the hell are they doing that needs that much bloody electronic cover...

We have a pretty good fix on the sweepers' last known position, but I'm guessing they'll have wandered a bit further after it cut out. You know how loose these goddamned mercs operate... can't trust 'em to follow regs even to save their own goddamned heads. Goddamned unruly morons charging straight ahead into a goddamned jammer...

Look, I don't want to send more grunt sweeper teams down there if they're gonna be out of comm range. I need someone like you can keep his head when nobody's holding his hand. I don't know what they're hiding down in all that crap, but you can bet it ain't a yard sale.

Grab some ammo, we're dropping you into the muck to figure out what the sweepers found. Or... what found them, more likely.

Oh, and... uh... sorry about the smell. Not much we can do about that, I'm afraid.

Mission Objectives

  • 5 Kill more than 225 enemy Army Points
  • 3 Kill between 151 and 225 enemy Army Points
  • 2 Kill between 75 and 150 enemy Army Points
  • 1 Evacuate the Wounded Sweeper
  • 2 You have two Classified Objectives worth 1pt each.
  • 2 Your Spec-Ops either damages an enemy model, or succeeds on a roll that completes an objective.

Terrain

  • A public sewage throughway underneath Syldavia.
  • The Stew: The rivers of filth are considered difficult terrain. If a model becomes prone within The Stew (whether intentionally or due to falling unconscious or failing a guts roll), it must succeed on a normal PH roll or suffer a wound as it drowns. Non-Unconscious models get a +3 bonus to this roll.

Deployment

  • Both players will deploy on opposite sides of the game table, in a standard Deployment Zone 12 inches deep.

Special Rules & Objectives

  • Underground: This mission takes place underground, so no level of Airborne Deployment may be used.
  • Jammer: An advanced jamming system is interfering with communications in the sewer. Long-range transmissions are hopeless, but short-range comms may be able to break through the static.
  • At the start of each player's turn, before generating orders, each of that player's troopers must make a BTS roll against Damage 10. On a failure, that model becomes Irregular until the start of its owner's next turn. A model in a link team that fails its BTS roll may remain within the link and move when the fireteam moves, but will not be counted toward the size of the fireteam for the purposes of calculating link bonuses (e.g., If 2 members of a 5-model fireteam fail their BTS saves, all five may move together; but when the link leader performs actions, the fireteam will be considered to have three members).

  • Rescue the Sweeper: The wounded remnants of the mercenary sweeper team have scattered and are hiding in drain pipes, waiting for rescue (or, if things don't go well, waiting to be captured).
  • As a short skill while in base contact with the front of a drain pipe, any model may roll a die to search for Sweepers. On a roll of 17+, a sweeper is located; on a failure, the drain pipe is empty. More than one Sweeper can be found in this way. If all but one pipe is searched and turns up empty, then the last unsearched pipe automatically contains a Sweeper.

At the end of the game, each player who rescued or captured a wounded Sweeper will secure the Druze Sweeper Campaign Reward for his faction.

Campaign Reward: Druze Sweeper [Ally]

An Ally is a model that has joined your cause and will fight for one player in your faction for the remainder of the league. Once secured in a mission, the Ally must be allocated to one player in the Faction. The Ally may be included in that player's army in all subsequent rounds without paying its Cost or SWC.

If an Ally ends a game in the Unconscious, Dead, Seed-Embryo, or Sepsitorized state, it is subject to the campaign rules for Character Death. If it fails its Medevac and/or Cubevac rolls, the Ally is lost for the remainder of the league.
